Yeah, i saw these on your Flickr stream and to be honest I didn't agree with the comments on the candle shot. It's a good idea, but it needs better focus (my personal opinion, of course )
Nice blues in the gas fire shot but the burnt out highlights are bit extreme for my taste.
Hope you don't mind honest opinions, don't mean to be too harsh on you when you've just come over from the dark side!

I'm with Tim - with a bit of work, you could end up with some nice shots. It's the area illuminated by the flames which makes these images (or potentially so). I'd have less black at the top of both.
