JR's Competition

I have now judged the images that were entered and found that if you scroll through them they are all there. It's just the pagination that doesn't work. I haven't declared a winner as this would generate a new competition and this is just a test, but I have commented on each picture and given Commended and Highly Commended awards.

Please now feel free to add further comments on the individual images or on the general thread. Unfortunately pagination is also broken on the general thread so we won't see comments there till later on Monday.

If we want a competition to end on Sunday Midnight by the way we need to enter the end date as the Monday.

My first reaction is that doing it this way made judging easier, so please have a look and let's see what we all think. As the thread in the gallery is not working 100% yet perhaps putting your thoughts here for now would be a good plan.

I think it's a big improvement. Trying to match comments to pictures used to be a real pain.

It makes much more sense having the comments directly under the image and others can add their thoughts (post judging) if they wish.

Nice seeing the results on a Sunday, rather than at work on a Monday

The judging of the weekly competition was changed from Sunday to Monday very early on by request from quite a few members. If anyone wants it changing back then this is as good a time as any to say so!

You are talking of the new competitions to come,yes?
If so, that would mean most of the judges would submit their judgment not earlier as Monday evening.( having a day job,etc......)

That's what happens now as the competition ends at 12 midnight on the Sunday. Some of us stay up past midnight, so the judging can be earlier...

.........and some of us foolishly stay up past midnight hoping to have a judge doing the same and then we end up waiting until Monday evening or sometimes even later

I do think judging a round "New Style", will ask a bit more from the judge.
But it still seems manageable.

When looking through the competition results, it was nice to have the photos with the comments, however, I did find the Commended/Highly Commended a bit lost. This means that we will need to scroll through the entries to find out the winner and the other awards. I guess I often want to see who won, and then look at the comments for the other entries. There does not seen to be a way to do this.

Well, I guess it is still possible to put the entire judge report in the add a comment
box. If allowed, of course

Would be great - I like to see the whole lot as well. The new style will require the judge to make the full judgment in a "word file" and then copy/paste for the pictures and then the full report ...... Second place sounds like the best spot as usual

Would there be a way for the judge to comment on the individual photos as the week goes on, but for those comments to be visible to everyone else only after the competition has closed, or even better when the judge chooses to 'publish results'? That way, it saves having to cut and paste from a seperate document.

If this seems like a good idea, perhaps we could suggest it to the team.

I was thinking of this 'not visible till competition over' option.

That would be fantastic. I don't know if this is doable. It should mean that every judge gets some kind of semi moderator status for the occasion.
But still, great idea. Would you please submit it as a report?
