Okay, I will make a suggestion to the dev team, the way they've been working lately I'm sure:
a) They'll be able to do it and
b) They'll love me for it!

P.S. John, I realise that you can just go through all the images and enter your judging as you go along, but for those that like to critique as they're posted, it would save an extra step.

So when you selected me as winner, it sets my picture as a thumb for the competition, and messages me saying to set up a new competition

Well it was, but without going through the whole process we couldn't get to learn what to do. It seemed a pity to waste all those great images on just a test, so I did the whole thing.

Also, even doing what I did it would be possible to post a summary message. You would be able to see the winner, but I held back from pressing the button until a couple of other things were sorted technically.
