You want a quality mount ya gotta pay for it I guess
But it does seem silly to have such a price variance
Is the Pentax mount for this lens in high demand over there, I think not
A large Electronics store over here in Aust, with a very limited range of SLRs and accessories, has 10 of these lenses in stock (Nikon only) in a glass case in the middle of the store and they are asking $900 for it . They have had the ten lenses for over a year and will have them for another year at that silly price.
I always like to take a dig at the salesman whenever i'm in the store and ask him "is that price for all ten"

Perhaps the Pentax version was not a stock item, so priced as a special at full price?
If the Nikon version was purchased in bulk then the price would be lower.
Jessops are a Pentax stockist, but not to any great degree. If you want good Pentax prices you need to look at other main suppliers such as SRS and Park Cameras.

Oddly enough, I was in the Glasgow Jessops, flagship/pro shop yesterday. They always used to carry Pentax DSLR bodies and flasguns at least (never any lenses other than the kit ones) but yesterday there was nothing by Pentax other than point and shoots. No Pentax mount independent lenses that I could see either.
However, checking online, they seem to be able to supply k20s and K200s to the local store of your choice within 2 days. Just about everything else is 28 days.

Jessops are simply .... a Jessops type shop
Or to put it better, the type of shop that sells what they think the public wants and stuff they can make a good profit on, there are several others on the high street that are similar.
IMHO Jessops are no longer a "proper" camera dealer, in fact I'm surprised theyre not selling TVs yet But if thats the way the want to operate then who are we to argue, we can always take our business elswhere, which is probably why Jessops dont stock Pentax because they cant be competative enough with it.

Don't forget that Jessops have been/are in desparate financial condition and are losing money even now.
Yhey will no doubt be trying to sell anything and everything that they find profitable, but may be restricted in what they can afford to buy. What they buy will be centrally decided as well.
So in that scenario they are not in the best position perhaps to respond quickly to the increase in Pentax sales and there are better stocked companies to buy from as a result.

Thats understandable considering they are not that readily available. philstaff wrote:

The Sigma 180mm macro is £100 dearer for the Pentax mount compared to the Nikon and Canon.
It all comes down to supply and demand.

I have commented on Jessops in the past and even wrote a letter (which they published) to Amateur Photographer. One involved the Tamron 70-300 which, when sold with a K10D was £100, on its own was £200! So I went to SRS and got it for £90!
I still shop from Jessops, but not for anything Pentax. I think John is right, it is partly dictated by their current hard times. They have server me well in the past when it came to Pentax though.
