Hi, just wondering if anyone has any dealings with these as they have the K10D kit for £399.99 less a £15 code for over £150 this weekend.

Really trying to find if I get a 2 year warranty with it or if its 1 year.

Thanks.

Hi Sockpuppet. no experience with Jacobs, but the info on the warranty that I have from the Pentax NL importers is that you only get a one year international warranty if you buy it from abroad-the second year only applies in the country of purchase. I don't know how true this is - obviously they want me to buy through them rather than through Pentax UK for instance.
Someone on another forum pointed out that the camera is more likely to go wrong in the first few weeks than in the second year. My Ds has never had a problem and whilst the K10D/20D is a more complicated piece of kit I see no reason why they should go wrong either, apart from if you get a duff one to start.

Maybe you could also look at other European sites for your camera, as you are based in Spain, so you can pay in Euros. German sites tend to be cheaper than others. Not sure how prices are in France. The K10D has not dropped in price as much in Europe as it has in the UK it is true, but you may find a bargain.

Jacobs are a pretty reputable firm, and they have a chain of real shops in the UK as well as an online store.

Bear in mind that they are selling it with the 'old' kit lens not the Mk 2 version, which is apparently better.

Gwyn makes an excellent point about things going wrong in the first year, I find a year's warranty is generally good enough for just about anything electronic as problems are much more likely to arise straight from the factory than they are 2 years down the line. If you get through the first 6 months trouble-free then the chances are you're in the clear until old age and wear&tear catch up.

The statistics I've seen bear that out. If it lasts six months then odds are on it lasting a long time.

This is what makes us avoid the dreaded extended warranties, but to be fair the Jessops one can be useful as it's fairly cheap and covers accidental damage as well.

I remember many years ago I bought a 32" Panasonic widescreen tv (widescreen had just about come out then), it was from Comet and for some reason I paid an extra £50 for an extended warranty.
18 months down the line my small son decided to throw a yoghurt at it and as I was wiping it off I noticed a very very small flaw in the screen.
I phoned the company the warranty was with and they sent someone out to take a look, who decided that the flaw had probably been there since manufacture but it would not be cost effective to repair and they would be in touch. A few days later they phoned to say they would replace the tv free of charge for a new model and I was to dispose of the old one at my own cost. I thought about this for a while and then phoned them back, saying I was in the process of moving and I would rather have a cheque if possible and buy a new tv when settled in my new home. Anyway, after telling me that they could not give me the retail price back if I had a cheque as they got things virtually at cost they agreed an amount of £1200.00 (remember this is over 10 years ago) but I was still to dispose of the TV at my expense.

That television went on for another 8 years+ until we moved to Spain last year when I gave it away .. and as far as I know it is still going strong.

As for the flaw, you honestly couldn't see it unless you had your nose to the screen.

Anyway, thanks for the replies.

Ive just bought a pentax k10d from jacobs website on easter sunday the uk warranty that came with it states its for 12 months but you can extend it , im a little bit gutted to miss out on the £15 voucher but no biggy i paid £399.99 plus £8 delivery. My experience so far has been excellent , the camera turned up weds not bad considering the monday was a holiday!
When i called their helpline to find out when it would be delivered the staff were very polite and spot on with their information.
I also popped into my local jacobs in New Oxford Street , London to buy a filter and some other bits for my new camera the staff in there were also very good and advised me if i have any problems with the web purchase they can be dealt with in store rather than hanging on the phone to the - great!
In contrast i popped into jessops and enquired about some pentax bits and the sales advisor told me not to waste my money buying a pentax as they were inferior - after fimrly telling him id just bought one i then ripped into him making him look like an idiot in front of his colleagues and customers i then left.
Additionally i also phoned jessops @ bluewater and the air headed female that answered just didnt seem as if she could be bothered with my queries
and left me feeling that i never want to buy from them in the future.
"Hope this helps!!"
