ist D - How do you remove CF cards without pliers??

Hi Folks,

Just got a refurb ist D and I am wondering can any owners tell me how to actually get the CF cards out without resorting to a pair of pliers?

Are they all this tricky?

I have put a small amount of sellotape on my cards so there's a little tag. That way it's easy to pull out the CF card. (Wasn't my idea originally... someone on the forum made the suggestion first.)

Very honest Matt, I think it was me. See here, thought it would be an excuse to say something after months of remaining mute! I've been busy trying to find out why a combination of *ist D, 16-45 lens and 360 wireless flash pushes the exposure and white balance way off the scale. I think I took better photos on the ME.

The *ist D strikes a blow for the common man. It gives the best results with the cheapest flash-gun.

I have tried the D with all sorts of different lenses and various flash-guns, and I find that putting the camera in Manual and using an old gun on Auto (for instance the AF240Z) gives consistently good results.

Using a digital TTL flash with the camera on Auto sometimes works well, and sometimes doesn't. It just isn't reliable.

The same problem appears to affect other makes of digital camera, too.

Actually, I find that it's P-TTL that's the problem.
I have a Metz 50MZ that works perfectly in TTL mode, and the AF360FGZ "tricked" into TTL only mode seems to work well too.

I'm doing all I can to get the bottom of this problem... if I get any answers I'll let everyone know.

Thanks all. I tried gravity, but as powerful as it is, it could not remove my card!! The card is a very tight fit and I think I would have to take a lump hammer to the end of the camera to make it shift!!!

I must try Matt's tape idea.

I wonder if the card you have is a little rough around the edges. I don't seem to have the problems you are having.

Why not just run a fine nail file gently along the edges on the sides of the flash and see if that does the trick?

That sounds like an excellent idea, poor old Steve's just got to get the darned thing out first

I think pliers or forceps might be the only solution.

You could try super gluing a small tab of plastic to the end of the CF card. Be careful to only put a drop on though

Steve - I assume you have pressed the release button just below the card?
