Issue with Tamron 70-300

I have an issue with a Tamron 70-300 zoom. The ring to control the zoom just seems to spin rather than cause the lens to zoom in or out.

My question is this something simple that is wrong or something more serious.

I realise that the lens is probably not worth repairing, but I thought I would reach out through the forum.

I would think it's serious. Have a word with Alan Marlow, link he is reasonable price wise and could give you a quote

They appear quite regularly on Ebay for very reasonable money. Might be as well to replace it?
