Is this oversharpened? I think it probably is.

A bit, but not too much. I think getting back a notch by 0,1 on radius
makes it ok. What kind of program do you use for sharpening, Mike?

Martin.

Photoshop and I do sometimes adjust sharpening when using Adobe ACR. This time I was concerned at the JPEG stage. In fact the radius was et at 1 I think. It's possible the 'damage' was done at conversion so I may try that again.

I think it's on the lupin leaves between the handles that the real issue lies.

No, the blade looks a little blunt, to me. Try a specialist knife sharpener or get onto it with a sharpening stone.

She'll only leave it out again and it will rust and get blunt again

Looks OK I guess. At pixel size there are no apparent artefacts but I haven't resized and used unsharp mask by then. In truth if we are talking like this it may be a tad over done but nothing awful!

I find this interesting. To me, it's unquestionably over-sharpened. Not badly; it's still a good picture, but less sharpening would be better and more life-like.

I am really quite surprised that others think differently. I suppose it's all part of the over-processing of pictures which is now so commonplace that many people think it's normal and right.

An interesting point, for me the image looks slightly too sharp, but my eyes are getting on now, am used to seeing slightly blurred images in real life. Perhaps sharpness is in the eye of the beholder? in which case can an image never be too sharp, or soft ?

Over-sharpening is a product of the processing. A picture can't be too sharp in the sense that there is a limit to how sharp a lens should be, or how much detail a sensor should resolve.

When a picture is over-sharpened, it starts to look unnatural, and un-life-like. That is what is happening here, although only slightly. If Mike had been sure the picture was not over-sharpened, he would not have posted it.
