Some nice photos, but in all the time it's been available, I've yet to see any pictures that don't look like they could be produced by a normal APS-C DSLR such as the K5.

Presumably, there is no difference until you print them over A3.
And there are so few of them out there, that the mind-blowing 645 shots are almost impossible to find amongst the deluge of conventional shots.
Also, I suspect most of them are being used by professionals who's work is not public or declared as 645, so you wouldn't know even if it did find it's way onto Facebook et al.

I'm sure they need to be printed large to see the increase in detail. Would be interested to see some 645d portrait work, I wonder if the difference would be more noticeable.

As always it's the photographer that makes the biggest difference. I recall a new 645d user who joined here once, and seemed horrified by the lacklustre reception his 'snaps' got...

I've seen medium format images in print and there's a significant difference in detail...unfortunately PC screens aren't the media to show them at their best

Well there is a market for cams for studio/location work for posters and billboards etc.

Well nobody owns a top end Hasselblad or Leaf anymore, they are all leased or short term rented, just like Panavision movie cameras.

At least you can own a 645D.

The Pentax USA Facebook page regularly shows 645D pics and very impressive they are too.

Just quoted for a 2 hour event shoot in Plymouth, for a London company who came to me; all images supplied with minimal editing, so still a substantial amount of work and I quoted a rock bottom £150. All correspondence dried up instantly! This happens frequently. No bloody wonder nobody can afford the 645D (and lenses) in this country. I'm sure it's not just me...

With the 645D putting out 7264 x 5440 pixels, you'll never see the benefit on a PC screen, even the next generation '4K' TVs won't show the benefit completely (IIRC the human eye only has a vertical resolution of 4000 'lines').

The real benefit from medium format is not just the resolution, but the increased tonal graduation. Changes of tone/colour are spread across many more pixels giving a much smoother transition. This was immediately obvious with my Lubitel 166 with it's comparatively soft lens.

That's not lost on me Ken. I have tried sticking my neck out but that hasn't worked either. This really did seem like a job with no budget, so I went in low, but I shouldn't really be second-guessing these things... I guess
I feel another thread coming on...

Sometimes it's impossible to know, I usually ask if they have a budget telling them if I know what it is I will maximise their return

...and there is some great advice to those that have yet to notice it.
