The happy couple will be swayed more by the brand name than sensor size.

What make camera do you use? ... Oh all our friends use Canon and Nikon, they are big brand names used by professionals so the pictures will be brilliant.

Pentax ... who are they?

It's not hard to justify using Pentax for weddings - the skin tones are superb and the overall colour second to none.

Be confident!

You could do a wedding with anything it's all about technique. This photographer once showed me how he used a Rollei looking through the sportsfinder and guessing the distance...
Looks like he still guesses distances and I'm sure he could use any camera including a point and shoot.

I've done quite a few weddings and I have never ever been asked what equipment I would be using, it's your portfolio that's the important bit.

Crop v FF v M4/3 v MF etc. is a discussion that does not have an ending, all depends on what camp you are in or wish to be in.

If Pentax did bring a FF to the market and for it to be a success I would I would design it to be the same size as the K5/K7 with a 30-36M FF/16-20 APS-C sensor priced around £1.5K then I would buy one.
Cheers
Brian.
LBA is good for you, a Lens a day helps you work, rest and play.

Given the release price and also even the present price of items such as the K3...

For comparison; I'd be willing to pay literally twice as much as the release price of the K3 to go with Pentax PK full frame. Or up to half the cost of the now "outdated" but still for sale secondary Pentax medium format, the one which was replaced by the Z.

If the couple knew anyone with a Canon or Nikon they would have been roped in to do the wedding for free and you wouldn't even be there!

Weddings move that fast anyway no one has time to look at the camera.

There used to be a pro wedding photographer near where I live and all people noticed about her was that she wore a big hat The number of times I've heard someone reply to a question such as "Who did your wedding photos" with "The woman with the big hat"

She wasn't a bad photographer and I can't remember what camera she used? I just have an image of the big hat in my mind

I have lived in Texas and Chicago in recent years and travel globally CONTINUALLY; and frankly your statement does not portray what I see on those travels.

Comanies like Calumet US ( now defunct) were focussed on Canon and Nikon but nevertheless all their stores in Illinois had good up to the minute stock of Pentax.

The others such as BHP, Adorama, Camera Addict etc, etc, carried the whole Pentax Range and if you check their on-line stores today you will see that is still the case.

My recent experience in the US, where I converted from a full professinal Canon system to a comprehensive Pentax system.was very positive

Last year I travlled through Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam Japan and Korea, no problem re the availability of Pentax ; China was / is different; following their normal business practice of only promoting products that are considered the most prestigious "brands as they see it".

My long-term experience of doing business in China is that they tend do this in every branch of commerce and retail ( and industry) because as a culture they are not strong in executing sales or selling and promoting and they beleive the best way forward is to only offer products that sell themselves on a perceived global reputation.

In many cases they also engage major Eu and US corporations to drag them along and front up their businesses.

For what it's worth I think Pentax avaiability is most patchy in Europe and recent experience of the "transitional sales and support structure" in Europe, gave clear messages that it isso unconnected it can be very difficult to engage if you are facing an equipment problem.

Johnsons Photopia are all populated by very solid people but who decides what and how is a coordinted solution executed it is without structure or decision protocols.

It is so disconnected that a recent problem with a K3 followed by the failure of a 160c ring flash drove me very close to reverting back to Canon;

In these two cases, if it had not been for the MD of Johnsons and the Sales Manager at SRS microsystems who took a very strong lead to overcome the rediculous and uncoordinated actions of "Pentax" Gmbh, France and Uk then I would have simply left, I already commited to a cannon Ff body; So bravo Johnsons and SRS

Back to the threats that will define Pentax's sustainability going forward;I believe Canon in particular, operate a very commercially aggressive business plan based on securing " store and display space" by providing good incentives to retailers and equipment resellers, it seems like they can Hijack stores "for fun"

Lets look at the facts, how can anyone think that Pentax is commercially up to the opposition when they have not been conspicuous and aggressive with a super product like the 645; in reality there might be cameras out there that are as good but is there anything that is clearly better.

Just consider, we still see old technologies selling under Canon's badge which underlines the point further

Pentax needs to get their commercial and development strategy and organization in shape, otherwise it will be the competitors, who have their's "firing on all cyliners" ( like Canon) who will suppress, squeeze and undermine the profile of Pentax in the market place .

IT WON'T BE THE PENTAX CAMERAS AND LENSES THAT "CAN'T CUT THE MUSTARD" AND IT WON'T COME DOWN TO WHETHER THERE IS A PENTAX FF OR NOT,

Pentax need to work on what comes after FF and get in front raher than be a " me too" running to catch up.

Back in the day Pentax kept their "technological chin in front"

This is not about cameras it is about corporate and sratategic competance and that is the weakness that is increasingly worrying and I just hope that Ricoh can bring the necessary comercial strategy and saavy to the fore.

Pentax lost their way when Digital took off in earnest and without a proper forward developmrnt and commercial strateg they can evaporate again.

[quote:3496ace15f="50mpCMOS"]Aahh yes the numbers.

Those numbers were presented at a Las Vegas trade show by a Sony rep. In front of myself and well over one hundred other people. They are also on the internet if one knows where to look.

The numbers not pulled from a hat and are nothing less than fact.

One also has to realize the market segments. Ever been to North America? Where can one purchase Pentax in a retail store? Yet it's also that exact way throughout most of the world. Yet Sony seems to have plenty of retail displays, market share, and most importantly sales. Very strange that Sony is doing so well in camera sales, whilest taking a look at the remaining Sony company structure.

In my perspective; Pentax cannot afford to take the gamble of not attempting full frame, They stand to lose more by not trying it

Recent experience leads me to beleive that Johnsons Photopia, RICOH /PENTAX (Eu , GmbH, France and UK) are all populated by very solid people but who decides "what and how" is very nebulous and somewhat baffling; there was definatrely no communication between the parties to provide a coordinted solution to arecent problem I was facing, nothing was executed with structure or decision protocols that were positive.

daily there were uncommunicated and obstructive decisions inflicte on Johnsons Photopia.
