Intermittent problem with my K20D

The rear dial is starting to misbehave, sometimes it works, and sometimes it does'nt.

I've already changed it so the front dial can change the aperture in AV mode, and aside from that the only time I use the rear dial is for zooming into a picture and changing the auto ISO range, so I can live with this for a little while (have a few events coming up).

But moving forward this needs to be corrected. The camera was bought from SRS exactly 5 months ago. What's the best thing to do; give SRS a ring, or should I speak to Pentax directly?

Not been in this situation before, so want to know the proper route for after sales support.

Check the grip.

Sometimes if the dial hasn't made a complete stop, the corresponding dial on the camera will not work until you do, and vice versa.

Did I explain that well enough?

Have the same problem with my K10D, grip is always the problem.
First time it happened I was in a total panick and reset the whole lot .. was not happy when I realised what it was as it took ages to put back how it was before.

I can imagine! I was certainly panicking, but the intermittent nature of it did make me think there was more to it than meets the eye...

When I first started using the grip I had a few patches also like that,. Then removed the grip and refitted it back and tightened properly, and it hasn't done again.

Seems you might just have had a hiccup and no need to panic ,
at least for the moment

Or it could have been all that excitement of the new DA*50-135 yesterday sending all that static vibe to the camera electronics that messes it up .

It's a bit of a pain, but you soon learn to remember to turn the dials until they click!

The other issue I had was when the front dial didn't work on the grip, took it off to find one of the pins had stuck in a little, probably from putting it on when not 100% aligned. Just pulled it back carefully with some tweezers and been fine since.

Ooh Please I know this one --- well sort off.

A while after I got my k20d, I had similar problems. Turned out that what was happening was that I took a shot and tried to change the aperture while the picture was still on the screen. If that is the case, the rear wheel zooms the picture rather than changing the aperture.
