I voted K20D. You should be able to pick up a good condition used one for less than £400, and should be able to re-sell it later for not much less if you decide you'd prefer a K7 (or the successor to the K7 ).

I agree with Time and Kris. That's still a big price difference. Providing you can find a K20 with a "reasonable" number of activations it should serve you for years. And could you honestly tell the difference, picture-wise?
There's still a recession on as well...

Go for the K20 - I love mine and why spend extra cash for a video option when the K20D is a superb instrument? Especially in someone else's hands but mine!

Just had a K-7 for a week, it's nice, but I suggest that you look for a good K20D, I'm not swapping.

Got the *istD - got the K20D - do I NEED a K7 ---------Nah !
As stated previously - get a good K20 from fleabay with lens for under £450 and enjoy.

another place
My broken camera is still stuck in a void.
In the meanwhile I have been getting cash together.
I have enough for a K20D.
however I'm sure with an extra effort I could wait a little and save/get enough for K-7.
Is it "instant gratification" and go for the K20D and get on making images
or is the K-7 worth the effort and wait and that much better than a k20d?
I have considered all the routes (boo hiss) including going D90 or 550D but neither of these however attractive will fit any of my lenses and neither is as sealed as a K-7. I keep coming back to Pentax.
So please help my itchy fingers hovering over the button.
(if I get a replacement camera or the repair money back I'll spend on a lens)
