Infra Red, why bother?

IR photography has a fair few fans and to be able to take IR photo's and have a decent view through the viewfinder for focussing is a huge benefit.

It gives you a very special few of the world and some really are masters in it.
When you build your camera to IR you've the advantage that the IR filter is behind the mirror so you can still see normally through the viewfinder to compensate your photo. That's the main reason for doing it I believe.

I am aware that i struggle to "see" B&W images in the real world, but can appreciate a good B&W image, AAs landscapes,HCBs street scenes and not forgetting our "own" Paulyrichards brilliant homeless series, but why would you convert a perfectly usable camera to Infra Red?
