The most amazing cemetery I know of is the Bonaventure cemetery on the edge of Savannah in northern Georgia. My, those 19th century rich people had egos! Never seen such a collection of tombs, monoliths, statues and the like. It is particularly beautiful in the spring when the azalia's are out.

My favourite is the Cimetiere de Montmatre in Paris where many notable citizens have been buried for the past 150 years, including poets, writers, composers, artists, engineers, academics etc, etc. I spent a very ghoulish couple of hours there with my Pentax last summer.

Both the Necropolis and the Southern Necropolis in Glasgow are good, the former actually built as a tourist attraction - s sort of Victorian theme park about death.
This is the choreographer Sergie Diaghilev's tomb in St Michele, the cemetery island in Venice. Someone had placed a pair of pointe shoes on it.

They do in Hong Kong as well. Luckily they only do it after you've had your 10 years in the ground , then due to the limited space they dig you up again and put you in a little locker in a giant wall.

I prefer to think of them as high rise cemeteries. It's not so shocking after a while - I've attended more than my fair share of Spanish funerals and the places seem less desolate after a while.In Spain they put them all in a wall

It's the ossuaries that intrigue me. Sad that they have nearly all been emptied now.
