In Camera Multiple Exposures

Hi All

Have been experimenting with in camera Multiple Exposures over the last few months, mostly on the K3. As some of you will know, I've been doing a fair amount of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement - the process of deliberately moving the camera whilst taking a photograph) over the last year or so, so I've found Multiple Exposures a fairly natural extrapolation of that.

All of the shots below are taken with the various multiple exposure blending modes in camera - no Photoshop or layers, just the odd tweak to levels in Lightroom. They're all also (deliberately) handheld, with the odd ICM or soft focus frame thrown into the mix. All are taken on the K3, with the exception of no.12, which was taken with an Infra Red converted K30.

Very effective Bill. I particularly enjoyed #8 and #12. I did a few multiples last summer at the Edinburgh Fringe, you've inspired me to do more.

Some intriguing images here, some work better than others. I especially like no. 5. It is the mix of colours and movement I think.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Bill, great set, some very painterly effects you've achieved.

Cc on my faves.

3 I like a lot, has a nice gritty feel to it, and a strong composition.

5 I wasn't sure of at first, but looking at on a larger screen, there's a nice broken pastel feel to the image.

7 like the picture, think it would lend itself to a large square print. But also with the horizon being on the centreline it also looks a little non conformist.

11 a lovely photo like the lead in of the path. Lends itself to the soft focus effect youve used.

Thanks all for detailed thoughts and comments on these... Very much appreciated... For those of you with an interest in this kind of thing, I urge you to have a look at Valda Bailey's work (www.valdabailey.co.uk)... A one time disciple of Chris Friel (who is extraordinary in his own right), she's really carving out her own niche... Quite the freshest thing I've seen in photography for some considerable time...

I like #10, it's got a nice art feel about it.

I have used the in camera double exposure before, but a little mainstream clichéd:
