Iceland - Westfjords

Some pics from my trip with Matt Emmett to the little visited Westfjords in the far north west of Iceland in July. 5 days, a 4wd, a lot of dirt roads, mountain passes, rain, and pasta. Mostly K1 (a couple KP), various lenses.

I really like all of those, well done. Make a good selection for a calendar!

As one might expect, these are just gorgeous. This is what you get when you team great photographers with great gear and let them loose in a great location.
Some fabulous moody, brooding shots there as a result of the weather and the usual low level clouds.

How to pick favs, from this lot,
1, 3 5, 9, 16, would be my picks with 1 and 5 being my favs from them, the quality of the light is sublime.

Not jealous much, honestly

Plenty of inspirational stuff thanks Bill! There's all the big skies, brood and mood and cloudy mystery we expect from this unique landscape. You've pulled some strong images out of the light and I think that's always a challenge considering the available light (almost none) and the cooperation of the sun (very occasional, for a few short moments!).

I like the sunny blue sky ones (almost looks like Dorset!) of course, but it's the dank dark musty ones that linger most ....No 5 is top pick for me. I envy your opportunities to do this ....I doubt I would ever he able to take a chance on it, I worry that the potential for poor conditions was too great a risk. But thanks for giving a little peek at such an isolated and untouched place.

Lovely work Bill. Photo opportunities along with a holiday is always a prefered combination...

As others have said, this is a wonderful set - a great piece of work. My personal favourites are :- 1, 5, 6, 9, 15 & 16.

I remember you saying during your Blyth lecture you'd like to go back. Well worth it I'd say.

When I saw the poster/postie and the location I thought we'd be in for a visual feast. I am not disappointed. Cracking set.

Thanks John, Derek, Nigel, Peter, George, Mag, Stuart, Phil, Barrie, Nigel and David for positive thoughts and comments re these... a raw, brutal but always beautiful landscape... we covered an awful lot of ground in the 5 days (1000 ish miles, approx half of that on dirt roads I'd say), so pretty full on in terms of travel and photography, but a real privilege to see, and experience, as well as photograph, what remains a surprisingly isolated corner of the country...

Derek and Nigel: yes, I tend to prefer the slightly moodier ones too. More evocative of where we were, I think, and a more accurate reflection of what the weather was mostly like... it's been very wet there this year... Nigel, I know what you mean re opportunities to do this. I constantly remind myself how lucky I am to be able to get away to places like this - the upside to being a freelance with variable periods of employment (and also unemployment!) I guess.

Barrie and David: would love to go back to all three!

Thanks again all... have various multiple exposures (reaches for hard hat), as well as quite a few from a number of abandoned places that we visited (Matt's specialist subject), which was a first for me and something that I enjoyed very much, so may put together another post or two at some point...
