Looks like you had the same idea as me, except I was on the other side of town trying to catch the action from the top of Market Square / Kingsbury. Got some good shots but can't post them here as I took them with my little Ricoh GRD (I thought an SLR might be too conspicuous but when I saw all the other 'togs I felt distinctly under-equipped! ).

It certainly felt like a lot of drunken louts in places!
Did shoot one interesting video with the K-7, I'm a youtube virgin but you can find it here!
Did get quite intimidating in places, was asked a few times to stop taking photos by demonstrators, and one particular person followed me round Market Square and 'politely asked' me to stop what I was doing or.......
Kindly though, the police filmed that and put it on youtube too here! That's me in the top middle being followed for the first 10-15 secs or so!
After that, I got out of the 'kettle' quickly before I was held in there, and was escorted back out through the tunnel. Will put some after shots up tomorrow!
@ Hefty, have you put your shots up elsewhere? Would really like to see what was going on, on the other side of town!

Yet you still get the "old guard" that says video is a waste of time on a DSLR and has no business being there. If anything this showed the demonstration better (in some respects) than the stills.It certainly felt like a lot of drunken louts in places!

At least the mounted police went either side of you not through you.
The police don't seem to have been to bothered by the huge number of photographers there, which has to be a good thing.
English till they die but carrying the stars and stripes and the cross of St Andrew too?
Makes one proud to be (half) English. Not.

I like the last one best too, photographically. However no. 4 has caught an... interesting.... pose - if only the hand was a little higher, it would have been perfect!
These are exactly the types who whinge about how no-one has pride in the St George flag anymore, then they abuse it in this way... grrr.

Bucks.
So closed the shop for 2-3 hours and went out to join all the other photographers for some fun.
These are some of the 'before' shots, leading up to the demo in the Market Square.
