My brother was an insurance claims assessor for a well known insurer, believe me, he knew all the tricks and dodges that people will pull to try and make a claimn On the other hand he often commented on how he had the feeling a claim was dodgy but couldn't prove it, he never mentioned anything about internet trawling though, be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Well I'm surprised. I'd be interested to find out what the insurance industry does today.

As for my assertion, you're probably right, no insurer would ever think of using the internet to audit/investigate a claim. How right you are.

I am not trying to be obtuse, really. I am merely interested to know if you have any evidence that you can link to to back up your statement. If not, no problem, just think a bit longer before making that kind of statement in the future, especially if it is not factual.

Now, back to your question re. Spell it out:- The OP has stated that some power issue may have occurred that he/she thinks may have been due to a faulty battery contact. I think that is unlikely. It is more probable that some mains borne interference could have caused the problem. That might be difficult to prove, unless the power provider recorded such an event at his/her address. So, if one were to wait for a definite interruption in electrical supply before making such a claim on the service provider, they might be receptive to such a claim. Devious? Maybe. Fraudulent? maybe. Satisfying? Definitely.

12ish years ago an ops manager for a major retailer approached me saying he thought someone was stealing but he didn't know how. It was quite simple to trawl through a database of several millions of sales transactions, profile the various stores and produce an expectation of what key indicators a normal trading pattern produce. Out popped his suspect from the normality helping themselves to over £1k a week but slipping under the normal audit processes. A 50k loss stopped by a couple hours 4gl. I guess this is pretty old hat now.

Isn't there a jtag interface somewhere on the mainboard? Allmost all devices I have a jtag interface on the mainboard (DVD player, SAT receiver, NAS unit, etc.).

When it arrives back I will disassemble it and see what I can find out.

No Stefan, that's just de Beukelaer for you. Renowned for their bad service. Why Pentax stay with them I don't know. Used to be so much better when Pentax had their own offices here. Then you could even have the sensor cleaned for free.
Now you can't even get an answer to a simple question. Probably because they are just importers and aren't bothered too much about helping out.

For us it doesn't really matter because for repairs we also need to send it to Belgium so if Germany is more helpful I'll rather send it to them.

Wow I got a message, they couldn't say precisely what it was and how much it will cost.
They guided me to an page with the prices and they only have two, one is a minor recovery and the other is a normal one and they think it should cost a normal repair job and that's €261,80 around 212 pound
