Well great the k-5 sensor stain has hit me. First batch I don't think so I bought mine in feb! I bought it from a pro dealer, will it be sent away or can I demand a replacement? My problem is I have a wedding next staurday, my wedding infact where my camera is being used, then of course I'm going away where I need my camera again. Any one know where I stand?

Thanks

Ian

Under those circumstances I would ask for a loan of a camera whilst yours is being checked

You've had it a very short time - so maybe he would exchange it on the spot .

BTW don't forget that under the Sale of Goods whotsits the dealer is responsible - so you go to him and not to Pentax.
let the education continue

Thanks for that, to be honest in my opinion I feel I should be able to demand a new one or refund, end of the day its a £1000 faulty item that has hardly been used

Is the staining bad? .. in other words could you not use the camera for the wedding/holiday and then get it changed on your return. Mine was one of the worst I have seen and it really didn't show until about f13.

Of course that's only if the dealer refuses to exchange it on the spot (which may happen if he has no stock).

Who is the dealer anyway?

The problem is the dealer may not have one to exchange for you, or even one to lend you.
How bad is the staining? Since you have only now noticed it maybe you get away with cloning it out?
If so then I would still contact your dealer, and see if they have a replacement, or a (stainfree!) loaner but if they don't say you want them to order one for you and in the meantime you will, reluctantly continue to use your current camera.

Well, first of all thankks guys and gal for taking the time to read and respond, secondly and yes I am going to look stupid now it was the lens phew, it looked exactly the same as the sensor stains so I guess I jumped the gun a bit and panicked before I tried other lens's.

I do have another question tho, dust removal! On my k-x it was quite and aggresive shake but on this one it barely does anything on start up, just a quick zip, when I go into dust removal it comes up saying removing dust but no noise or vibration at all, is that right?

Thanks again all.

Presume you mean something else than the K-5?
They changed the dust removal system starting with the K-7 .. would hardly know it was working now.

I bought one last month with similar manufacture date. You must have gotten an old stock. Make sure when you get the replacement, check it immediately (I did and my replacement also had stain). And check manufacture date as well.

AFAIK, anything made in 2011 should be safe. The stain may develop over time as well so if yours was made in 2010, keep an eye on the stain every now and then.
