I am really fed up with advertisements

Pentax don't need to advertise to me either. But I do think they need to advertise the Q, which seems to me a triumph of style over substance and therefore a marketing driven product.

Spot on Dr O. It is the smallest ILC in the world- that is a sufficient fact to shout about- regardless of the IQ and the price and everything else about it that isn't particularly impressive.
Its a great "gadget" and should be marketed as such.
I cant recall any ads for it anywhere?

As an experiment I was going to flick through the channels with the remote and see how long I could go before I was forced to watch a program rather than ads

Usually "Time Team" has adds at different times to other channels.
The sad thing is that they "trim/chop" time off the actual programs
to fit the adverts in..... so what starts off as a 28min program
on the BBC gets repeated on a commercial channel cut down to 20min

Is Time Team still going?
We used to get it here on one of the many channels but it stopped a long time ago. It was a favourite!
I still think a bit of Pentax product placement would work wonders, and is probably cheaper and certainly less annoying than all those TV ads.

In Dubai. Because the broadcast prayer "ishaa" is at a slightly different time as the year went on, at certain times of the year you could watch a good murder/mystery for 55 mins say 1900 to 1955hrs then prayer time would be broadcast and if the next program was due to start you missed the end of whatever you had been watching as the next program had started.

I'm sure there are repeats on sky somewhere? they may be listed as "new" because they are new to that channel, a common form of disappointment to many

All I can say is thank god for these new Set Top boxes, I record virtually everything I want to watch now, then watch it at my convenience and Fast Forward through any ads.
Re. Pentax - as has been said there 'real' camera makers out there who also do not mass market advertise. The Canikon cabal has the market sewn up so that what few ad's PRIC could afford would be like wee'ing against the wind. Hell, I haven't even seen ads for Sony DSLR's, and they CAN definitely afford to advertise if they wanted...

Ah, don't have Discovery History in my cable package.
My DVR/decoder works overtime to avoid ads.

I have a BBC series being repeated right now on digital channel. When you make a programme for anyone but the BBC you, the director, decides where the adverts will fall given certain sensible ITV guidelines. You then structure the programme in such a way for the breaks to come naturally and the programme still make sense.
When a programme made for the BBC is then shown on, say ITV, it may lose sense when the ad breaks come in because it wasn't structured for them.
When did you ever time 8 minutes of commercials in a thirty minute slot. You didn't.
I also have an ITV series running on a BBC digital channel and it looks strange and occassionally repetitive without the breaks

I've never timed a single 8min break.... but ..... it's coming!
6 1/2 min breaks are common on shows like American Pickers (excellent program) on History. That's a 1 hr show (less adds).
-----------------
Edit: You need to time the breaks Ken. It's a few
years since we only had 8 mins in 30 mins. No program
runs for more than 25 mins now and there are two breaks
of 4 to 6 mins in that 25 mins
------------------
30 min. Shows like Two and a Half Men and the US Office can't be more
than about 15 -20 min without the adds
There's no way they can show BBC progs on commercial channels
without removing 10 to 15 min per hour of program content and
I doubt if they are bothered about what they remove
A lot of BBC wildlife progs are shown again on Discovery History etc.

Hmm & whilst I was reading the Independant today I saw this

Looks like the cashback offer has saved Pentax Ricoh a fortune in advertising, looks a good move to me...

I saw a fairly prominent quarter-page ad in the 'i' newspaper, which featured their 'exclusive' relationship with Jessops. The ads looked similar to this, from Jessops website.Spot on Dr O. I remember a long time ago when Apple almost vanished, but look at the company now. When people think different, strange things can happen.
Pentax do not need to advertise to me, i love the brand and it works for me.
