Howdy from Texas!

I thought I had posted this the other day, but now I can't find it. I hope I am not double-posting and already screwing up.

I am a retired math teacher from the suburbs of Houston, Texas. Although I have been taking pictures for about 10 years, I became serious about my photography about 3 years ago when I retired.

My focus is on wildlife (primarily shore and wading birds), flowers, and landscapes. I have recently been becoming more involved with macro which is really an outgrowth of the close-up work I do with flowers.

Along with photography, I enjoy boating, keeping a boat on a lake north of Houston. Also my wife and I travel a good bit in our motorhome which gives me plenty of opportunities for photographing interesting places.

I am a member of Pentax Forums and only recently discovered this forum.

My kit consists of a K5-IIs, 18-135mm, 55-300mm, 50mm (the plastic fantastic), M100/4.0 macro MF, Sigma 150-500mm, Vivitar 35-205mm close focus MF, and a Super Cosina 100-500mm close focus MF. Tripods include a Sirui travel tripod, Benro heavy-duty, Sirui K-40X ball head, and a LensMaster RH-2 Gimbal. Also there is a homemade ground in there someplace.

Perhaps hotter, but surely not drier.

We are having very bad storms and lots of flooding. Our local river (the Brazos) is some 6-7 feet over flood stage. More storms are on their way. For many folks t's a good time to be somewhere else.

Oh dear, I hadn't realised that, hope you are OK.

Our weather is more predictable, we have cold rain in winter and warmer rain in the other three seasons

Another welcome to this forum. Like you, I was also a member of the US Pentax forum, but found that this one gave me more than enough to read (and buy!).

Another one that I occasionally look at is the "Pentax SLR Talk", which is one of many in DPReview .

welcome. My experience of Texas is:

Flying into DFW and driving north (after an overnight stop in Denton) to Oklahoma City to join R66, then staying the night in Amarillo (listening to Tony Christie of course) before venturing West into NM. Last stop of course in TX was Glenrio. Enjoyed that part.

Twice, transferring in IAH, your local Untied hub. Not set foot outside the airport. Must be the nastiest immigration/transfer experience anyone can encounter, why are the officials so rude?
