Two Spoonbills Enjoying a Joke

by AggieDad

These are Roseate Spoonbills. They are wading birds found in the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico and Florida.

They move their spatulate bill through the water straining out small food items. Although their bald heads and strange bills do not make for a handsome bird, you will be hard pressed to see more beautiful pink coloring. When in flight both the neck and the legs are extended and they are a magnificent sight.

These two were at a rookery during breeding season. They are about 30 inches (760 mm) long with a wingspan of some 50 inches (1270 mm).

Used a K5-IIs with Pentax 55-300mm zoom.

I wonder how one of those fits inside its egg? ........ well grabbed opportunity !
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
