WR means weather proof not water proof, they can't stand water pressure.
Only some of the compacts can go into the water.

Of course you can go swimming with it, it will likely never work again though
There was a thread recently regarding the weather sealing qualities, general consensus was it was OK in a downpour and whilst you may be lucky and get away with a quick fraction of a second dunking its not worth putting it to the test, the bodies are Weather Resistant not Waterproof.
EDIT: Stefan beat mo to it, serves me right for braking off to put the kettle on

Would the shower work? That's pretty much equivalent to being dunked for a quick second in water. I'm not talking about 5 feet of depth, but rather just touching the top of the water.

and what happens when you slip? if you really must attempt this try enclosing the camera and lens in clear plastic bag with just the front lens element exposed, secure the bag around the lens barrel with a couple of strong elastic bands. You should be able to operate the shutter through the bag.

I've resined my K10D a couple of times under a tap full open and that never caused me problems but the luck is with the idiot or something like that

My diving watch, which is "water resistant to 200metres (unlike me:shock is suitable for dives to 50metres according to the instructions. Um

I wouldn't go swimming but I can testify that the DA* 16-50 and K-7 will handle quite heavy rain without a problem So how waterproof are our cameras? Can you go swimming with a Pentax SLR if you've got a WR lens on?
However I think I right in saying that WR lenses are not quite as resistant to the elements as the DA* range
