Help needed regarding K7 - RAW PEF and Elements

I have just got my K7 today and have tried putting the PEF files into PS elements 6 and for some reason PSE6 is not accepting them .. It says the files are damaged.. However I have always used elements for PEF and they were fine.. I can open the files in CS4 so I feel it is more than likely a problem with Elements

Has anyone else had this problem and solved it ? If so would you mind telling me how you sorted it please..
I have the latest raw update and also the pentax codec .
Thank you guys
Pete
Pentax K7 and K5 and several black tubey things with magnifying glass in that twist around and move in and out - to be honest I am not sure exactly what I have. Will list the proper names one day..

Does PSE use the Adobe RAW converter or has it a RAW converter built in?
If it is built in then it will probably not recognise the K7 RAW images properly.

You will need to update Adobe Raw for PSE6 to accept the K7. I am not sure if this is possible though. Otherwise you will have to either use some other Raw converter or update to PSE8.

It tells you somewhere on the Adobe website about updating Adobe RAW for Elements, but it is a bit of a search.

RAW files besides DNG are camera related, so a PEF from the K20D is different from a K7.

The wonderful thing is the DNG files in the K7 are compress so if Elements works with that then that's the way to go.
Also CS4 loves DNG files, you won't have any limitation with what you can do with them.

Actually you got a point there I do my editing in CS4 and that uses Camera raw which sees the files.. I only use Elements for Cataloging - I shall try bridge and see if it works in there if so I shall have to start getting used to using Bridge instead of elements .. Really Elements is wasted on my PC .. but thats a different subject I'll try now and get back with the results in a while

well They work fine in Bridge .. That is really strange I do not understand that at all .. It has given me a temporary fix but would rather use Elements so would still appreciate any other suggestions

Elements is out of date and does not have any support for PEF files from the K7., it's as simple as that.

PEF file from the K10D are different then from the K7 so Elements need to use different support for each camera model.
CS4 is new and is being up to date by Adobe, CS3 for example would also not be able to open PEF files from the K7.

DNG is the only universal RAW standard and Elements might be able to open those.

Camera Raw 5.4 supports K-7 PEFS, 5.6 is needed for the K-x. Both can only be used with PSE7 and 8.

Edit - I see the price has dropped on PSE 8 so maybe PSE9 in on the horizon .
