How to fit a vivitar lens?

I got hold of a Vivitar 28-70 Macro lens 1:3.9-4.8 MC.

Im trying to get it on my K10D - but seems to be off some how. Just a tiny bit - like the mount is too high and wont get in deep enough.

On the mount it says P/K-A R-P/K.

It won't fit on my K10D - Should it? Or do I need an adapter of some kind.

Hope some of you can help me.

If it doesn't fit properly, don't put your K10D at risk by trying to make it fit.

Clearly something is seriously amiss if it doesn't bayonet smoothly into place.

This is a picture of the bayonet. Can you see if its a Pentax fit? (picture from ebay)

I noticed the tap - is larger than my other lenses - and clearly pushes off the body - leaving a gap.

I can't identify that flange properly, the picture is too dark. However, if there's any chance it would foul the mirror movement it ain't worth the risk.

I've said it before, but why not just stick to Pentax lenses?

Sorry John - My english isnt to good - what is a flange?

Here are a few pictures I just made. The long tap seems to be the problem.

Many older lenses have that extended guard for the stop down lever. It is completely unnecessary for it to be that long and hits the power zoom contacts when you try to attach it. Some 'surgery' can fix it if you have the tools and time.

PKA-R mounts also have an additional raised locating pin that can sometimes cause problems.

The extended metal rim is a flange.

It looks as though this lens was designed for Ricoh cameras.

Although Ricoh used the Pentax K mount, they added some features of their own, like the pin that Steve alludes to. This is positioned in just the right place to foul the AF actuator on a Pentax AF camera.

Generally, Ricoh-fit lenses should be avoided.

If it is a Ricoh mount you should read this Info i found when i was researching there compatability with pentax K mounts

Quote:
Note about Ricoh lens compatability:

Ricoh program lenses are not compatible with Pentax Auto-Focus bodies. You can identify these lenses by a “P” on the aperture ring – when the ring is rotated into the “P” (Program) position, it locks in place and you have to depress a small button to get the aperture ring to move again.

The Ricoh program lenses have a small ball bearing contact on the rear flange of the lens that will pop right into the hole that holds the AF cam on Pentax autofocus bodies. The result will be that the lens gets locked tight on the body, only halfway mounted. I learned this the hard way trying to mount a Ricoh lens on my Pz-1p! It took a trip to the repair shop to get the lens off the camera.

The Ricoh program lenses will work fine on manual focus Pentax bodies – no AF cam or hole to get stuck on. With my Ricoh 50mm f 1.7 I just removed the back flange from the lens and took out the ball bearing contact. With the modification it no longer works as a program lens on Ricoh bodies (not that I have any Ricoh program bodies) but it is now compatible with Pentax AF bodies.

Older, non program Ricoh lenses do not have the contact or this problem These lenses are basically like SMC-M or K lenses in their aperture operation.

With the exception of the 50mm f1.7 mentioned above, all of the Ricoh lenses reviewed here are the older, non-program models, that fit without problem on all Pentax bodies, both manual and auto focus.

Thanks all - for replies and comments.

I found this thread on another site. Just to put it up here if anyone have similar problems.

Looks like Tyr's suggestin is the way to deal with it.

Cross my fingers now - I'm starting to trim the flange (I learn new things every day of my Dslr life )

I seem to recall having a Tamron adaptall mount a few years back that was Pentax & Ricoh fitting. It nearly jammed on one of my AF bodies (can't recall which one) but worked fine on the MF ones.
