How times have changed

I took the carpet up in our back room this weekend, as I am decorating. Under the underlay was some old newspaper, dating to 1990.
There was a photo competition and one of the runners up was of two children playing in the sea: wearng nothing but arm bands and sun hats. The shot was taken from behind and the children are standing up in the water.

Now, these days to even take that shot would be dicing with death, let alone a national paper publishing it!

Time's changed for the worst in my view.

Actually, you didn't mention which nation. In most of Europe it would be fine!

I believe it was a year ago.
It was about a British photographer but she lived in the USA i believe.
So took photos of her child everyday and she collected and showed those photos in one of her expositions.
It was showed in New York if I remember correctly without much problems but when news arrived of the photos getting shown in england things got out of hand... I think she showed the photos here for just one day or not at all.

Personally I find Jill Greenberg's photos closer to child abuse.

Yes times certainly have changed - 2 summers ago - I nearly got lynched photographing my own daughter (then 5) paddling in the pool in the local park wearing just her pants - the world has gone mad.

As I said I still find Jill Greenbergs photos closer to child abuse.

It is sad that people over react to such simple photos.
I really don't think perverts are lurking round every corner snapping away at children - they are online grooming them nowadays .

Gwyn, I have just googled Jill Greenbergs images, and they are certainly strange. To me, they seem to be a series of HDR/cartoon-like images, very unsettling, and very unappealing.

Is she a 'succesful' artist?

Sadly yes, she is successful.

The real question is, is it right for an adult to use a child that way?
All she did was give the child a lollipop and then take it away, in that aspect i dont find it wrong but is it right to do that just for the photo?
I find that a very hard question to answer, it's not my style but she didn't cause harm in anyway so...
