Only had one camera die. My beloved Ds after it was thrown from the back seat of a car when we braked hard to miss hitting a tractor which pootled across the road in front of us without looking first to see what was coming.
I cursed my darling husband for leaving it on the back seat, not even in a case. I loved that camera, and I miss it .
If it had died a natural death it would have been bad enough, but this was cameraslaughter .

Oops, very sorry techno-terminator. I blame the mistake on that picture of Arnie...
Hmm, Gwyn, I am spotting an agricultural trend here in camera-death incidents...

Ummmmm ........... I'm female and very happy with my K-x and the P70 [ which was replaced because of banding problems ]
And I can't be blamed for the tractor incident - the camera was in my handbag in the caravan and a nasty little tea leaf got in while my husband was preparing for bed and whipped his jeans [ with car keys AND caravan keys ] AND my handbag
Not enough dosh in the handbag for him so he dropped it in the road , we presume , cos I claimed the bag back from the police next day and there was a VERY large tyremark across my bag and the camera was in bits
OH - his jeans were found under a bush and the car keys etc were still attached to his belt. The Thief benefitted to the tune of €20
