This one is in light of Remembrance Sunday, which is tomorrow in London, at the Cenotaph.

Red is the colour.

I find the very light ground quite distracting and it seems to rob the red of some of its depth. Also the shadow perhaps could be darker but that might be very hard to do in PP. Also the area top left seems a bit untidy - how does it work if you crop out all the ground and have the cloth as the boundary?

I can't quite see how an event that has yet to take place has any relevance to the photograph unless for an individual viewing it something is triggered that prompts that thought.

So Mike, your sayin' some contrastin' light in this image is distractin', OK. I don't find it distractin' at all, yes my eyes go to the light areas but they never wander out of frame and always come back to the red coat.

In regard to the event, its takin' place this evenin' in the Albert Hall and tomorrow at the Cenotaph. I jus' thought I would photograph one of the Queen's own.

Poppies are red also, don't you know.

There's something about this image, where my eyes just won't settle on anything. First I'm drawn to the red coat and the metal detail on the boots, but then I'm distracted by the tiny bit of shadow in the top right, maybe this could be cloned out? I think I would have taken more of the red coat and lost some of the wasted space in the foreground. A good idea though, there's just something lacking in the execution of it. Have you tried B&W with just the coat left red? I myself will be at a Remembrance Service in the morning with my camera so will be posting my results tomorrow night.

Not sure how to respond really. Yes I do find it distracting and I agree with Utopia about the eye wandering about which may be your intention of course.

They were only thoughts and of course and I quite accept they may be wrong as it's a personal opinion. I know poppies are red and that was part of my point, I didn't need to be told and should have been left to make that connection myself, as always IMO.

I think i've seen written somewhere that the K20D doesn't produce good reds in an image? If thats the case it wasn't the problem here the K20D delivered great reds. I didn't have to do anythin' to 'em.

They looked bad on the LCD though.

I love the contrast in this image and the deep rich red. Unlike the previous comments I'm nor distracted buy the light areas , in fact I find myself wanting to see a bit more detail in the boots.

I'm with MarkD. When I first saw the photo the first thing I studied was the spurs (I had already read the title). Nice shot!
