The hotshoe on Pentax cameras (and Nikon I think) have four contacts, one large centre contact and three small ones. Canon cameras have one large centre contact and FOUR small contacts.
Anyone know why this is?

Different manufacturers have different flash protocols.

Thanks Ken. I just wondered if Canon cameras/flashguns had some additional mode that others didn't, hence the extra contact.
