That a scandelous quote. I misplaced mine when using the flash, went into local store to see if the sold them, they didnt butmanaged to find one somewhere which they gave me for free!

It's only a bit of plastic that is shoved inside the hot shoe to cover the contacts. It really doesn't matter if you have one or not, and if one isn't available for any reason you could cut down any old bit of plastic that will slide inside to do the job.

There's one as a "buy it now" for 99p on Ebay. Including p&p.

I was always losing the original hotshoe covers on my Olympus cameras and found that the replacement ones with pinch sides worked well.

You could also go for one with in-built spirit level

Funnily enough I've never lost my K-30 one. I'd agree with the other posters - if the assistant saw the camera and what was missing then that is a scandalous estimate. I'd go to another store in future.

I wish I could go to another store, but the nearest one is in Winton in Bournemouth. I like the cover with the spirit level so i have added that to my watch list as a spare possibility.

Have you tried London camera exchange they sell Pentax now.( although I like the look of the replacement cover with level inbuilt!)

One in Salisbury doesn't. It still only deals with Sony cameras etc.

Glad that's sorted Aura. Now you'll see why I was concerned at what you were describing
I hope Castle Cameras quote of £80 was because they hadn't seen the camera and were assuming it was actually the hot-shoe itself that needed replacing. If not....
