Hooked

I took a trip down to Hook head lighthouse yesterday, I just love it down there. Its just seems so raw, primal, whatever it is I'd love to get a chance to stay for a bit there.
Hook Head Lighthouse is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world, built over 800 years ago by Knight William Marshall
Anyway, here are a few shots, all with the siggy 70-200mm, a little experimenting with exposures and stitching.

This is a 16 shot stitch, took 2.5 hours for the pc to render it and even flickr doesnt go all the way in on it.

Wow, stunning detail with the Lighthouse shot, the seascapes are also superb.

I just cropped this to give some idea of the detail in the shot, you can follow it through to flickr and zoom in

There's a starkness and boldness to the colours in the lighthouse one, it reminds me very much of Portland Bill, and no doubt has a similar atmosphere when you're there. I'm not sure that I understand exactly what technique is being used here for the detail ..... I though stitching was to make really wide panoramic shots?

You had tough light for the others, exposure control must have been a nightmare. I favour the underexposed look of the 4th image, where the speckled water is really emphasised.

Cheers Nigel.
Yea exposure was an issue as sun was baking down at a horrible angle, every now and again a little cloud would block it for a few secs. But wind was strong so clouds moved fast.
The technique is similar to a pano, but it comprises the whole scene. There were multiple shots just of sky.
It gives a super hi resolution image if your pc can process it.
Mine struggled.

Some how this guy missed this wave breaking towards him, he wound up with 2 wet feet shortly after. I was chatting to him later on and it was his birthday, said he visits every year on his birthday.

Interesting shapes in those breaking waves. And I very much like the b+w.
