Holster bags

Yesterday it was a right pain to transport the K-5 in a camera bag with a small lens on it, then change to the Bigma, and then back again for the journey home.

So I'm now looking at getting a large holster bag that will take the K-5 and the Bigma.

I'm looking so far at ThinkTank - something like this (is that big enough/ bigger than I need?), or possibly what appears to be the closest Lowepro equivalent.

I'd appreciate any tips from anyone with experience of this sort of bag or similar.

I have the Think Tank 20. Mine's a version 1, but I don't think there is much, if anything, between version 1 and 2.

Mine happily swallows my K-r with the Pentax 18-250 attached and the lens hood in place. Like all of their holsters there is a zip at the base which, when opened, expands the holster to accomodate a larger lens.

It has an integral rain cover and a small zipped pocket on the side which will take 4 or 5 K-r batteries. I can get a couple of filters and SD cards in the pocket inside the lid.

Obviously the one you are looking at will be a bit bigger so might have extra capacity for bits and pieces.

I love mine. It looks a little bulky at first glance, but is very comfortable in use and sits on the hip nicely (though with the Bigma it might be nearer your knees...). It doesn't pull on the shoulder with the strap and sits quite well if attached to a belt. I suspect it would be even better with a proper Think Tank belt.

It's very well made and will stand up to a lot. I had a look at the alternatives and didn't think anything else came close, but that's obviously a personal choice.

There are usually a few knocking around on Ebay in good condition - I can see a 40 ending in around 5 hours and a 50 ending tomorrow.

I have actually made a bag for my K5+Bigma+BushHawk shoulder Pod.
I think the shoulder pod is a real finishing touch to the K5+Bigma it hangs on my shoulder with my hand on the tripod (Handle) and is ready for action, by swinging it up like a gun into the shoulder where it is really steady.BUT how to store it carry it about (not at the ready), I didn't want to detach the shoulder pod each time so I made up a bag for it all built up.This was done by purchasing a Karrimor Transit 70 Backpack bag and some Hard foam. I cut the foam to fit round the camera+lens+shoulder Pod and now just open the top of the bag and feed the Unit into the shaped foam. The Karrimor then goes onto my back like a normal backpag, or into my bedroom where it is ready for action very quickly.
If I am just going out for a walk on a nice day I leave the Karrimor at home and just sling the Unit over my shoulder, with a belt around my waist holding my DA*16-50 + DA Fisheye + waterproof Poncho and feel I now have great lens coverage 10-500 and not as much weight as before when I used my Kata Slingbag as the weight is all spred out on Waist Shoulder and hand.
I have now decided that the only weakness would be when I need to change from Bigma to 16-50, and the only answer I could think of was to buy another K5 to keep in a Holster on by belt with the 16-50 attached and the only change lens from Fisheye to 16-50.
