Yes a polariser and in pp I used blend mode "overlay" at 40% to bring up the contrast.

Gareth, you certainly will be able to use blend modes in Photoshop.

Super picture.
Funnily enough, my brother was in Yellowstone a week or two back, struggling with a new K20D and a bison that seemed to like their campsite.
You didn't notice any grumpy-looking Pentaxians with friendly bison?

I only spotted one other Pentax user while I was there.
I do seem to recall seeing a bison with a pentax zoom for a horn though
I hope your brother enjoyed it as much as we did.
