Hey Neil, welcome to the forum. Be careful about taking lens buying advice, it can become obsessive. Some members here have a thing referred to as LBA. It starts with improving on the 18-55 and 50-200 kit lenses (which in themselves are quite good). You'll be advised to get a 55-300 for motor sport, a 12-24 for landscapes, and a 18-135 for 'walkabout' - these in addition to the introductory primes - the inexpensive 35 2.4 and 50 1.8 (haven't yet bought that latter one). ((Yet)). Then you find out about the fantastic legacy lenses - the 'K', M and A series of primes; some of the zooms are excellent too. One of Pentax's greatest attributes, that you can fit any Pentax lens on your new camera, is in fact, for me its' greatest problem. I'll not mention the quirky F and wonderful FA series and don't start buying them just because there rumours of a Full Frame year after next after next. I now won't own up to how many I have, but despite this, I so want just a few more; the star lenses and the limited primes. Don't be like me. Resist! Settle for just a handful and go out and take some lovely photos, starting with Castle Stalker. Your in God's country and probably have a WR camera. Just stick to WR lenses and you'll not go wrong in the lovely and misty West Coast. Sorry. I only meant to say, "Welcome, good to have another 'Scotchman' on the forum".

Hi Ronnie , i have purchased a K-5 and one of main reasons was for its weather resistance which helps in the west as you will know , i just sold my 5d mk11 which was a brilliant camera but i found it a bit big and heavy for lugging around , main lens i used was a EF200 2.8 L prime with a 1.4 extender for a bit more reach on the full frame sensor when required , landscape i used a 17-40 f4 L or a 50 prime i will be selling these lenses to fund new pentax kit i hope to purchase one good prime to replicate the canon 200 performance and a WR lens so i can get more use of the camera when the weather is not at its best , Morar is a nice part of the world as they say West is best
Thanks Neil
Thanks Neil

Hi Neil, you had good quality Canon gear so will probably want the * Pentax lenses to maintain the standard. You might replace the Canon EF200 2.8 L with the SMC Pentax-DA* 200mm F2.8 ED [IF] SDM , your 17-40 f4 L with the SMC Pentax-DA* 16-50mm F2.8 ED AL [IF] SDM. Both have WR. I’m sure users will give good advice on these and other options. If the budget can’t take both of the above I can recommend the SMC Pentax-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR (fantastically useful, but not always for pixel peeping). Apologies for the strings of letters and numbers. (Note to self: Name the lenses). Hope you enjoy the K-5 as much as I do.
