Hi guys, first post so a little about myself - retired college lecturer in electronic and aero engineering. Hobbies include playing keyboard, caravanning and now going back to photography after many years just snapping grandchildren etc. Am interested in purchasing a Pentax dslr and looking at the Pentax K-r. I have an old Pentax spotmatic with a selection of lenses (55mm screw I think) including standard and 28 - 70, 135 portrait and 300 zoom. Could someone tell me if it is possible to use any of these lenses with the Pentax K-r. Apologies if this is a dumb question but just started reading up on dslr's as not at all familiar with them. Thanks in advance, drew

As long as it is a K mount, it should! If it's a M42, than an adapter will fix that (and an M42 adapter means you can use your old lenses with any particular modern DSLR camera brand). Welcome to the forums by the way.

The K-r is a fantastic camera, superb low light, and it easily has the best bang for your buck in its price class. Although actually handling the camera in your hands will be the best advise I can give.

Looking forward to what you come up with!

Hello, and I agree with this comment.

I tried both Canon and Nikon but they felt plasticy - the Canon more so, then when I held my Kr I knew I had made the right choice.

I know at least one member of this forum who will honestly say he chose Pentax because of the handling (a Pentax istDL IIRC), Pentax DSLRs are intuitive and easy to use.

Now you know two - I handled a couple of Olympus models (got thrown out of the event :lol, a few Canon's, two from Nikon and then the K10D - and now I have the K10D

I use m42 lenses and pkm/pka lenses - for the m42's it is best to stick with the Pentax adapter not one of the flaky paint knock off ones - so I am told.
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

Thanks guys for the comments and advice - will certainly go for the Pentax but as yet not sure which model to go for. Will have a look in the local stores and get up and personal with a few models and maybe wait till after Christmas to see if there are any January sales on them, thanks again guys, will let you know what I purchase, rgds dru337.
