Heron this morning

It was a beautiful morning today and in particular there were a good few herons squawking around pen ponds in Richmond where I was out for a bit of a ramble. Here's a few shots I managed to capture. Very strange looking birds... almost like little dinosaurs, but with fantastic plumage which seems to look blue in some light and grey in others. Anyway, here's the first I saw:

He soon hopped off to the wooden island in the pond, making a not-too-elegant landing, although there are some interesting pointers to the aerodynamics over the top of the heron's wings in this shot (apologies - I am an aero-engineer by background :shock

The Heron then stood here for a bit, scaring away the gulls:

Before exploring the edges of the pond. I like this one as it looks as if there's a sunbeam landing on the heron's head:

A little later, I caught this shot as well which I am quite pleased with although it's a little noisy:

Hope you like these, any C&C welcome as ever

#4 is the one for me...well focus in front...like the blurred background...the sunlight brighting his head...

The second one with the spread wings is nice and the last one is also super.

Both the flying shots for me, the one landing is a very unusual angle which works well.
