Help re firmware upgrade ist D 1.0 to 2.0

Posted 06/04/2006 - 14:26 Link
I am trying to upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 without success. I can get the bin file to the root of my SD card, in fact I have tried two formatted cards.

I turn the camera off and then disconnect the PC before holding the menu button in whilst I turn the camera back on. All that happens is I get the version 1.0 message flash up. No sign of 2.0 or its installation procedure.

I wonder if I am missing something obvious here. I am reluctant to send this back as I wonder if there is some setting I am missing.I just have a feeling that I am doing something or not doing something I shouldnt be !I have even gone into the menu and rereset in case there was some setting I have enabled stopping this upgrade

Any help gratefully received

John.

I guess you are talking about the *istDS, not D right? if so you seem to be following the right steps, it's a very straightforward process. Sorry I can't be more useful.

PS: The card only has the bin file and nothing else in it, right?

Camera has istD written on it but could be DS I suppose. The card has just bin file and an empty DCIM file after format.I am right to format the card on the camera and not on a PC I hope !

below the ist D there is a label with a S, L, S2 or L2.
Anyway if you have a SD card slot it can't be a ist D.

Upon closer inspection what I thought was a logo is indeed the letter L.

Perhaps where I am going wrong is putting an SD card in the slot labelled SD ?

So, if it's a letter 'L' is an *istDL and, as far as I know, there's no firmware upgrade for the DL, just for the D and the DS, you don't need such upgrade.

Are you sure it's a Pentax?

In fact, are you sure it's a camera, not a toaster?

Do you know what sort of car you drive?

Forget the sports for a moment, and put your brain in gear. Of all the silly posts on here, this one takes the biscuit.

George. There is no need for that. What a rude unhelpful post.If you have nothing useful to say, don't say it.

I am new to this and feeling my way. I have made some errors here which I am going to share in a minute to perhaps save the face of someone, who like me,is new and inexperienced, and whom may be put off asking questions by the nature and tone of your posting.

The camera is a Pentax ist D L .The firmware upgrade I have been mistakenly trying to apply (2.0) is for a ist DS . I also note that there is a firmware upgrade 1.12 for an ist D which I am assuming is separate to the ist D L once again.

I have started photography ,largely from scratch and am on a steep learning curve. As I said previously, any help would be gratefully accepted.

If you live in the UK George, and would like to share your barbed and jejune views with me personally ,I would be delighted to meet you.

Fine. But not if you're bigger than me!

But that aside, please ignore my jejune utterances and feel free to ask questions. We're a friendly bunch on the whole.

And if it helps to know you're not alone, I have seen people selling Pentax LXs on Ebay who have called them ILXs because Pentax used a slightly weird font with a double ascender to the L.

It was a good way to tell whether the person had used the camera, or was just flogging something that' he'd picked up at a car boot sale.

Best wishes

George, I was going to suggest you to ask that first ;you don't want a huge stranger "smashing" his *istDSomething on your head

I note the occasional disagreement and flame out too, around here, and have noticed a pattern of people dissagreeing, and often resolving thier conflicts without ever having to go to the trouble of meeting up in person...javascript:emoticon('')
I like that about this place cause for me, it'd be a long walk across the pond...come to think about it I can't walk on water...Most Canadians do believe that Christ did walk on water, with only the skeptics among us believing it was winter at the time...javascript:emoticon('')

Speaking of downloading firmwear (as opposed to underwear - sorry about the spelling error), I have a istDS and its menu indicates I can shoot in RAW. I have not tried this yet, as I seem to recall something about having to download some sort of upgrade from Pentax in order to do so.

Is this true or not?

Ted
