Help! Difficulty with my k100d and af360fgz flash

Posted 24/07/2008 - 20:36 Link
I just recently purchased an af360fgz flash unit for my k100d and am having an issue selecting the TTL mode on the flash. When I hit the mode button on the flash in order to cycle through the different modes, the only ones that come up are P-TTL, A, M, and SB. I would like to use the TTL mode rather than the PTTL mode for rear-curtain sync shots, but I can't seem to be able to select it. Any ideas?

I’m not sure the K100D supports TTL flash (my K10D will only has PTTL), after the *1stD I think they dropped TTL and only provided PTTL.

That would make sense, but in the instruction manual it appears as though the flash itself should be able to select TTL. Even disconnected from my k100d, the flash is incapable of selecting TTL as opposed to P-TTL. Hrmm

Also, when i set the flash to manual and attempt to use a rear-curtain sync , the flash seems to revert right back to P-TTL mode.

Your camera does not support TTL mode, so neither will the flash when its fitted to it. It needs to be fitted to a TTL capable camera for TTL to be available for selection.

The *istD supports TTL, and I think the *istDS does also. They are the only Pentax DSLR's that do.

The AF360FGZ flash has been around longer than any Pentax DSLR, it was designed for use with the MZ-S film camera. Read Page 14 of the flash manual.
