Most likely you need to clean your contacts

The f-number in the top LCD screen I guess.
When the camera doesn't read a f-number it gives that sign.

Aaaaaaaaaaah .

Try leaving the batteries out for about a couple of hours after cleaning your contacts

My K-x did something very weird once and that's what I was advised to do . Batteries were left our overnight and miraculously all was well after that .

It sounds like you may be getting a request for the focal length from the SR system. This normally only happens when non-electronic lenses are fitted, although a few early AF lenses can also prompt the query.

I think Stefan is probably right - clean the contacts on the mount and lens with a soft dry cloth. This will make sure the communication between lens and camera is working properly.

When you say "camera screen" by the way, remember there are two screens, so it's helpful to be specific!

That is asking you what focal length lens have you connected to your camera, if it is K mount lens, you will have to imput number and press ok, if AF press menu it should clear it.If not as said above clean contacts.

Also have you had a quick check to make sure all the dials/switches are not stuck between settings. I've found this can prompt unusual happenings

Typically bad contact between lens and body. I get this frequently when mounting the Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens, but by twisting the lens off and on again it's OK.

Thank's to all,

I believe it could well be dial stuck between two settings, as suggested by bforbes but cleaning of contacts also a distinct poss, as suggested by most of you.

The lens in question is my sigma 17-70.

Thank you all, you have been very helpful AGAIN

Regards to all, Larry.
