Very tepid, mild soapy water. Gently rub your finger across the transparency(or transparencies), and if you have one, a film squeegee that you would normally use in a darkroom. Sit them on a clean, flat non-porous surface such as a sheet of glass to allow the warmth of the room to evaporate any small drops of moisture, then scan and re-mount the slides. If you don't feel confident of doing this yourself, I daresay there's companies that can do it for you.

You can buy slide cleaning liquids, or could. I would ask The Darkroom Ltd. for advice.

Most printers have film cleaner in their shop. See your local printer and ask if he can sell you some. His will be cheaper than the one you will buy in a store, since he likely buys a 4 liters/one gallon can at a price point way lower than the stores.

All of the above is excellent advice.
Then when clean store them in airtight containers along with packs of silica gel in a dry, even temperature.
Ours are stored in their original boxes and then placed in airtight boxes
which are kept in the dark room/ light room. No issues in over 40 years.

I need some advice, I have a number of slides taken back in the 80s and 90s which I am trying to scan.
Unfortunately the years have not been all that kind to them and most are dirty the rest are filthy.
What should I use to clean them?
Thanks in advance.
