Hello All,

I've been a bit busy recently, falling off mountain bikes on the Isle of Wight (http://www.takeyourpics.co.uk/viewpicture.tlx?albumid=99052&pictureid=4361112), but while I was there last Bank Holiday I saw the coastguard out practising rescues. Not a great shot, but interesting (IMHO) Comment Image

Is that a lighthouse in the back behind the rocky outcrop?

It is quite odd to freeze the rotors of a helicopter on a photo, makes it look like it is about to fall. Took one yesterday but it was very small so I got rid of it.

I've been refining my pictures quite harshly since I got my K10D and have deleted 60% of them.

Due to a cock-up on the equipment front I only had my 16-45mm lens with me which isn't ideal for this kind of shot. The technical data for the shot was 1/400 @ F8.0 @ 45mm @ ISO100. In the full size shot http://www.ammonyte.plus.com/images/just%20practising%201.jpg you can more clearly see the winchman dangling above the little rock. They dropped him off there circled around and picked him up again.

Yep that's the Needles lighthouse and the shot was taken at the Old Battery http://www.theneedlesbattery.org.uk/

I love the Old Battery! It is a wonderful place to walk to. We've stayed at a small hotel just by the footpath entrance that goes to it, and went there every evening. The smell of the wild honeysuckle and the gorse was intoxicating.
Never saw the coast though. Good shot, puts it all in scale, I spotted the winchman dangling there looking small against the Needles.

I fell off my mountain bike yesterday.

But no-one saw me

My knee hurts today

But I'm going out again later!

Nice shot! Good detail in the rocks.

Hi Tim,

scary.. I was going to post an almost identical shot taken from the battery Bank Holiday Sunday.. but the sensor was too dirty, and the picture wasn't enough of a stunner for me to be bothered cleaning up the image. I'm guessing that was taken Saturday.. the weather was horrible on the Sunday.. I took some of the glass-blowing down at Needles park instead, which I'll probably post one or two of some time.

Did you go over on the Hovercraft or the Car Ferry? We came back on the Hovercraft on Monday, and to say it was a touch wobbly is an understatement.. you wouldn't have got me on the ferry for love nor money.

Cheers

Liam

Hi Liam,

I took the shot on Monday. I'm told the ferries weren't running in the morning, but I had booked a late trip (18:30) and everything was reasonably flat by then. Went on the Red Funnel car ferry, as the biking event event does a deal with the ferry company and the campsite. On the boat back I left my cameras in the car boot - then we went and sailed past the QE2. Double Drat!!

It was jolly wet on Sunday! I was soaked after only 500 metres http://www.takeyourpics.co.uk/viewpicture.tlx?albumid=99050&pictureid=4360893 (Warning - that picture was taken by a c@n@n)

Wash your mouth out with soap and water!

Good job you'd trimmed your beard, if you'd got that waterlogged you'd have never got moving at all. Might even have got tangled in the spokes...
