Hello, my name is Gedski .....

..... so named by 'friends' long ago after the great Gatsby. Don't ask!

I have literally just 'joined up'. My photographical knowledge, I would rate as +/- zero. I have, yesterday, bought something called a Pentax K-r, which comes with two 'thingies', one is 18-55mm and the other is 50-200mm.

The last twenty four hours or so has been spent reading a novel named Pentax K-r Operating Manual, not much of a plot or story but otherwise rather interesting. I haven't used my machine properly as yet as I am still trying to understand things.

I am sure that I shall have lots of, possibly, stupid questions but I will try to keep them to a minimum and use searches before I ask. I have already availed myself of the assistance on the internet and I hope to learn at an acceptable rate of knots. Thank you and kind regards, Gedski.

I've only been a member here for a few days, and I have owned a K-R for just one week.

The operating manual is serious reading - 350 pages. Wow!

Agreed! If it is like my camera - every dial, switch or knob has a green setting.

Stop reading the manual (after you have worked out where to put the 18-55 or 50-200 thingies - oh, and the battery and memory card!) - go out, press the button and see what happens!

You will get shots - then after a bit start moving dials, knobs and buttons off the green settings (one at a time!!)

Once you have managed to assemble the thing, 24 hours would be better spent looking through the viewfinder and pressing the silver button (top right ) - I am sure you will have photos to make you smile!

Don't worry - they are intimidating (I spent 2 days staring at mine before I touched it!) - but what is the worst that can happen?
