hello - new user

Hi all, just joined the Pentax users website the other day. I live in the North East of England and work full time in IT within the oil and gas industry. I have been interested in photography for just over a year now. I was in Africa on safari in May with a Sony cybershot and thought, mmmm these images aren't perfect. So bought a Pentax K-R and here I am. I also have a website on deviant art (http://m-hutcheson.deviantart.com/gallery/) some of the Sony images are there. I'm looking for some constructive feedback on my images and hoping to take my photography to the next level.

If you live in or around Durham why don't you give Durham Photographic Society a try out Michael? You will get to work alongside some very experienced photographers, and everyone welcomes new members and is willing to pass on advice.
We meet every Thursday at 7.30pm in the St Oswald's Institute in Church Street, just down from the New Inn.
There's quite a few Pentax users there among all the Canon and Nikon people but we are not equipment obsessed - we are far more interested
in producing good images.
I'm not the only DPS member on this Pentax Forum, DOIK and Barrie
Forbes are also regulars.

Thanks for all the feedback - David I'll look into the DPS - is it just a case of turning up with my camera?

You don't need to bring your camera to meetings Michael, just turn up and we'll explain what happens. Thursday night meetings are varied, sometimes a photgrapher his or her photos and discusses them, sometimes its a competiton judging night.
We get some big name speakers from the world of photograpahy as well as North East based experts and our own leading members to talk their way through their pictures.
We also show digital projection images of some of the leading photographic salons such as the Royal Photographic Society and the London Salon.
We have monthly assigments to locations for group photography, usually a Saturday, and there are monthly digital instruction nights, generally held in a committee room at County Hall.
