Helios on k20d

Hi
I tried my Helios lens with pentax converter ring on my k20d and I am a bit puzzled.
When I used it previously on my k100d, camera asked me what focal length this lens is. Then it worked nicely with manual focus, but everytime I focused on something manually with half pressed shutter it beeped when in focus. K20d does not do any of this:/
Should k20d ask for the focal length? And should it indicate when in focus as my k100d used to?

Thanks

Make sure the shake reduction is switched on. And yes the K20D should ask for the FL. I generally use 55mm.

Hmm... any ideas why mine does not ask for it?

And what will shake reduction help with? Apart from reducing shake?

Only when SR is turned on.
It needs the FL to calculate the amount of sensor shift.

is the beep option turned on in the menu?

Technically so long as your shutter speed is above 1/60 with this lens SR doesn't matter much. In reality as you have it you may as well use it!

This. You need to have 'Allow aperture ring use' (or something to that effect) enabled in the custom settings menu.

Also, if you input the focal length it not only uses it for SR, it also (IIRC) records it in the image EXIF.
