Can anyone tell me please if the HD video clips produced by some compact cameras can be burnt on to a DVD and played in ordinary domestic DVD players?

If they are HD clips the will need to be resized from either 1920x1080 Full HD or 1280x720 HD to 720x576 SD (PAL) by video editing software.
