Gutted - Anyone do much repair work?

I have done a repair like this before, but its a pain to do. I peeled a strip of copper from a printed circuit board and used that.
Steady hands, magnifying lamp, fine tip soldering iron and patience are required.

Biggest issue I've had with that sort of thing is the plastic melting away, as soon as a soldering iron comes within an inch of what you want to solder.
Have you considered using conductive paint? Obviously without seeing the problem - don't know if it's an option. I'm sure Halfords used to sell paint for reparing heated rear window matrices in cars - that might do the trick?

I think RS Components, possibly Maplins as well, do a cold solder which is a conductive resin.

Now, I can probably solder a few connections on both sides and run a lil wire, but it's going to be tight. Has anyone every tried to repair a flex cable? Any pro tips? They're so effin tiny / delicate that I'm going to have to avoid soldering on the cable itself!
