Here's a shot I did as homework for uni. The theme was food and monochrome so green apple, suspended in front of a green backdrop.
Pentax K1 and Tamron 90mm. Key light - AD200 in softboxed beauty dish, background light - slaved Pentax 540 FGZ II

The concept and composition work for me. However, the blemish on the apple draws the eye and detracts from the overall impact. Also, the transition from shadow at left to brightest area doesn't seem smooth (but that might be partly due to the tablet screen I'm using).

Thanks Steve, appreciate your comment and you're take on it. That blemish is a piece of water I sprayed onto the apple

I did shoot a version without it:

Nicely done Gareth and is a gentle reminder to me that monochrome does not have to mean shades of grey.

If Steve had not pointed out the blemish / spot of water, I would not have noticed it. Nevertheless, the second image is better in my opinion.
Nigel.

Getting older and grumpier. Taking longer to decide which lens to use today.

Think I agree with Steve about the blemish, though I would still prefer no. 1 as the bottom left unlit area in the second seems a little too dark and lacks the detail that's visible in the first. Still an interesting idea!

I prefer the version without the mark. Gold star for you !

Second one is better for me too. The slight reduction in detail might be caused by focus being very slightly off.

Thanks all!

Used a Phase 1 today in uni - hated it - horrible camera!
