Great Crested Grebe

Went for a very unproductive wander round Blashford lakes at Ringwood on Saturday and was sat in the hide watching the rain fall on the water when the cloud suddenly cleared and a little Grebe started swimming towards me.

K-5IIs and 150-450mm.

Lucky you, great shots.

How do you find the 150-450?, I read that it's a little soft at 450mm

Michael

Personally I always use it handheld and because it's a fairly hefty lens I get a lot less keepers than if I were to use a tripod but when I do nail it I have no complaints at all. I have seen plenty of sharp shots taken at 450mm so would put any softness down to either bad technique or a dodgy lens.

I've started using mine on a gimbal head mounted on a monopod and the keeper rate has vastly improved, particularly with wildlife, tried the gimbal on the monopod today at the mach loop and resorted to a Sigma 100 - 300 handheld instead.

They all have a very tranquil air (or is it water?) about them. Great set.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
