Good brands of lens for K1000

I bought a K1000 on eBay which came with three lenses - a Pentax 135mm, a Centon (Jessops brand?) 50mm, and a Hanimex 28mm. After testing the Pentax and Hanimex lenses I feel the Hanimex isn't very good quality, and I thinking of replacing both that and the Centon with better quality lenses but would like some good names and names to avoid. Thanks.

The K1000 will use standard Pentax K series and M series lenses (as well as later series, but not using all their functionality). Most of them are very good and can be bought on Ebay for not much money.

There's not really much point in looking beyond Pentax. With the exception of Vivitar Series One, no other lens manufacturer is likely to come near Pentax for quality, and there is no shortage of Pentax lenses. This was their golden age.

Make sure you get a standard 50mm lens. They are optically superb, and very cheap.

As George says the Pentax manual lenses are superb.
In my opinion also of high quality are Tamron Adaptall Lenses. The Tamron Adaptall lenses come with changeable mounts. For the Pentax K1000 camera you would need to get one with a PK or PKA Adaptor Mount.

I would advise Pentax lenses every time - readily available at excellent prices, superb quality, matched transmission quality (no colour shifts from lens to lens) and identical operation (focusing rings, zoom rings and aperture rings operate in a consistent direction).

In the past I have bought many other makes of lens, and have always been disappointed in either the optical quality or the quality of manufacture.
Best regards, John
