Going Manual

Yesterday in the winter sunshine, I decided to go out and play. I also did something I haven't done since pretty much the last ice age!

Go fully manual.... I took out with me a Pentax K3, K20D IR Mod, an M SMC 50mm f2, a Vivitar 200mm f3.5 and a Tokina SD 400mm f5.6 manual lenses.

Something I did learn.... A polariser works with IR!! Images with the almost black sky are shot with one on.

This lot came out. Hope you enjoy them all, as much I did taking them. It was fun!!

Some interesting photos in that lot. Of the colour ones, the first solo bovine shot and the lofty crag stand out for me. Of the mono ones, I'm drawn to the one of the crag with barbed wire fence and the last but one rock pinnacle. The first few don't make the cut for me because there's too much clutter, while the pairs of bovines are looking out of the picture which I find mildly irritating.

No reason why a polariser shouldn't work with IR, it's just another wavelength of electromagnetic radiation and not far off visible light. If we were vampire bats, we'd be able to see IR just like light (according to internet sources) .

It's interesting that the polarizer has removed that bright white falseness that usually comes with IR pictures.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Works great as a whole set for me, excellent stuff.

The landscape reminds me a bit of the edge of the Pennines, living abroad these days that makes me a bit homesick.

I particularly enjoyed the last colour one and the lonely sheep.
